Overview
We were appointed to carry out the groundworks andconstruction of the bases for two new padel courts in Stourbridge,transforming an existing tennis court area into a new purpose-built padelfacility.
The existing tennis court area was not quite large enough toaccommodate both courts, so we carried out additional groundworksto extend and enlarge the area, creating the required space for the newpadel court layout. This involved careful planning and preparation to ensurethe new extension tied in correctly with the existing site.
One of the challenges we encountered during the project wasan existing manhole located within the proposed court area. To allow thecourts to be constructed without affecting the drainage system, we carried outthe necessary works to redirect and relocate the manhole beforecontinuing with the court bases.
Along the side of the development next to the car park,we installed a tall noise-reduction fence to help minimisenoise from the padel courts and reduce the impact on the surrounding area.
The site also presented a significant change in levelsbetween the car park and the lower padel court. To overcome this, weconstructed a retaining wall using timber sleepers, providing thenecessary support to retain the car park and create a safe and stable boundaryalongside the lower court.
With the combination of the existing site constraints, theextension of the tennis court area, drainage diversion and changes in groundlevels, this project required careful planning and attention to detailthroughout.
